Fantasy Football – Gameweek 37

by

I didn’t get round to doing a preview for the last gameweek but I would have only told you to go with the obvious and that was choose Man Utd players as they were playing twice. Carrick and Tevez both had excellent weeks (the former getting 13 against Wigan alone) but the star of the week was Diomansy Kamara who scored more in one week (16) than he had all season (13). Admittedly he’s only played in nine games until now but it was still good. Gerrard dominated West Ham and would have matched Kamara’s score but for a missed penalty. I always like it when a player has about six different things forming his score. Gerrard only lacked an assist and a caution to give him a complete set of stats.

Only two weeks left now and I’d hazard to say everything in our league has been decided. The only thing to play for is the battle for second between Sportboy P and myself. He is very much favourite given the number of similar players we both have and the 32 point lead but it’s worth having a go at.

Top three captain choices:

1. Rooney/Man Utd – Shrek has already spoken out this week about how satisfying it would be to win the title against Arsenal on Saturday given they’ve previously returned the favour. Coupled with the fact that he always seems to score against the Gunners and their confidence being pretty low, he’s a good bet to put the seal on another triumphant season for Fergie’s men.

2. Gerrard/Liverpool – This slightly depends on whether Man Utd cock it up against Arsenal on Saturday. If Liverpool are still in with a shout then they should destroy West Brom. However, if as expected the title is settled there may well be a rather subdued performance from Liverpool.  That said, I’m sure that either way the newly crowned Footballer of the Year would like to celebrate with a goal.

3. Robinho/Man City – Three goals in his last four, even an away strike against Everton! Tottenham have been very impressive at home recently but I have an inkling he could do the business against them.

Three last throws of the dice:

1. Brunt/West Brom – Five goals in five games. Single-handedly trying to keep the Baggies up.

2. Elano/Man City – Back in favour with Mark Hughes and back in form. Two goals, an assist and six bonus points in four games. With Palacios out for Spurs, he should get a fair bit of freedom in midfield.

3. Anelka/Chelsea – Making a late bid to win the top scorer title from Ronaldo. Two goals and two assist in his past two.

Three to turf out:

1. Adebayor/Arsenal – Will he play for Arsenal again? Jumping the gun a bit but Bendtner and RVP seem to be the men in favour at the mo.

2. Bolton/Blackburn/Wigan players – Mentally on the beach.

3. Everton players – I don’t see most of them trying too hard with a cup final to concentrate on.
